HeartCode PALS is the AHA’s blended learning delivery method for the AHA’s PALS Course. Blended learning is a combination of eLearning, in which a student completes part of the course in a self-directed manner, followed by a hands-on session.

HeartCode PALS is an online comprehensive eLearning program that uses eSimulation technology to allow students to assess and treat patients in virtual healthcare settings. In this environment, students apply their knowledge to real-time decision-making and skills development.

To enter the course, students must complete the PALS Precourse Self-Assessment

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to

  • Perform high‐quality cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) per American Heart Association (AHA) basic life support (BLS) recommendations
  • Differentiate between patients who do and do not require immediate intervention
  • Recognize cardiopulmonary arrest early and begin CPR within 10 seconds
  • Apply team dynamics
  • Differentiate between respiratory distress and failure
  • Perform early interventions for respiratory distress and failure
  • Differentiate between compensated and decompensated (hypotensive) shock
  • Perform early interventions for the treatment of shock
  • Differentiate between unstable and stable patients with arrhythmias
  • Describe clinical characteristics of instability in patients with arrhythmias
  • Implement post–cardiac arrest management

Students who successfully complete the online portion of the course receive a certificate granting them access to a PALS Hands-on Session with an AHA PALS Instructor. Students must successfully complete both the online portion and the hands-on session to receive a PALS Provider course completion card

This self-paced (Part 1) course is accessible anytime from any computer. Students can access the PALS Providers Student Manual, PALS Pocket Reference Card and more for 24 months.

This course may be used for initial or renewal PALS Providers Course completion.

Complete "Part 1" online and you'll receive a certificate.

(1-2 hours to complete the online course.)

Bring this certificate to our offices and our Instructors will provide a hands-on skills practice and testing session. (Parts 2 = Skills)

Successful completion of both parts will result in an AHA PALS Providers card being issued

Students have access to all information in the course for 2 years after activation of course key. Including the PALS Providers Student Manual, downloadable algorithms, summary of steps of CPR, the PALS pocket reference card and more!

A Skills Session with an Instructor is required to receive your PALS Provider Card.

Skills checks can be conducted after ACLS or PALS courses or independantly. Contact our offices for AHA skills check availability.

  • Hours are subject to instructor availability and may change without notice. Skills sessions take approximately 90 minutes.

The online class keycode is automatically added and instructions will be emailed upon your registration. Please check your inbox or junk folder for this confirmation email. If you don't see it, contact our offices at (907) 342-7348.

Consider adding the BLS HeartCode online course. By doing both, you will synchronize your PALS and BLS certifications, and save the cost of the BLS skills test, as BLS Skills blend easily into an PALS Skills check. You only pay for your BLS online course and card.

Payment is required at the time of registration, unless a validated promo code is used.
