The AHA’s BLS course trains participants to promptly recognize several life-threatening emergencies, give high-quality chest compressions, deliver appropriate ventilations and provide early use of an AED. Reflects science and education from the American Heart Association Guidelines Update for CPR and Emergency Cardiovascular Care (ECC).
Who should take this course?
The AHA’s BLS Course is designed for healthcare professionals and other personnel who need to know how to perform CPR and other basic cardiovascular life support skills in a wide variety of in-facility and prehospital settings.
What does this course teach?
- High-quality CPR for adults, children, and infants
- The AHA Chain of Survival, specifically the BLS components
- Important early use of an AED
- Effective ventilations using a barrier device
- Importance of teams in multirescuer resuscitation and performance as an effective team member during multirescuer CPR
- Relief of foreign-body airway obstruction (choking) for adults and infants
This self-paced (Part 1) course is accessible anytime from any computer. Students can access the BLS for Healthcare Providers Student Manual, BLS Pocket Reference Card and more for 24 months.
This course may be used for initial or renewal BLS for Healthcare Providers Course completion.
- Complete "Part 1" online and you'll receive a certificate.
- (1-2 hours to complete the online course.)
- Bring this certificate to our offices and our instructors will provide a hands-on skills practice and testing session. (Parts 2 = Skills)
Successful completion of both parts will result in an AHA BLS for
Healthcare Providers card being issued
Students have access to all information in the course for 2 years after activation of course key. Including the BLS for Healthcare Providers Student Manual, downloadable algorithms, summary of steps of CPR, the BLS pocket reference card and more!
A Skills Session with an Instructor is required to receive your BLS for Healthcare Provider Card.
Skills checks can be conducted during BLS, ACLS or PALS courses as well or independently. Contact our offices for AHA skills check availability.
